Three-story motel founded on an auger cast pile foundation that supports grade beams in both directions.
The ground floor consists of 8″ deep hollow-core slabs with 2″ composite concrete topping that rests on the grade beams. The interior and exterior walls were built using concrete masonry units to support the hollow-core slab floors. Composite brick and concrete columns were also utilized to support the structure. The Spa across the street is a huge one story health facility that is mainly constructed using a light wood frame structure covered with prefabricated wood roof trusses. Both structures were designed to meet Department of Environmental Protection requirements as well as local St. Johns County requirements for hurricane wind resistance.
